We left from Boston on Wednesday, May 5 and flew overnight to Amsterdam, landing on the morning of May 6. We missed our connection to Dusseldorf, so we had to wait at the Amsterdam airport until the next one. We eventually made it to Dusseldorf where we were picked up by Greg's friend Christoph and his wife, Anna Marie (I think this is how it was spelled, although you say it like Anne Marie). They brought us back to their house in Moers (pronounced Merz). It is right outside of Duisburg, where the World Games were held in 2005.
Christoph served as the volunteer in charge of Team USA in ultimate for those World Games. The team stayed at a hotel in Moers, and Christoph assisted with laundry or getting around, etc. He also hosted a final party for them at a beer garden there. Greg was there (although not coaching) and met Christoph, and they got along really well. They have since taken bike trips together, and he often stops by to see them when he is in Europe.
We stayed with Christoph and his family (his wife, Anna Marie and his two daughters, Jana and Britta) for a few days while we were in Germany. One of the main reasons we were there was for Christoph's 50th birthday party, which was a lot of fun. We met a lot of their friends and family, but a lot of people didn't speak very good English, and I haven't spoken German since 5th grade (which, I doubt I even "spoke" German then).
